11 things I learned from Doctor Who fandom

In celebration of our eleventh day countdown to The Day of the Doctor, I thought I would share what I have learned about the franchise from the fandom.

11. There is a slight division between those who consider them true Whovians as they enjoy the entire franchise compared to the people who only like the reboot. Despite this division, they are pretty united in their love for the show.

10. I'm not the only one that doesn't like the Daleks. I could not understand the appeal of the Doctor's greatest nemesis. They are suppose to evoke blood curling screams of terror and yet it seems if you had a can of spray paint and a wire cutter you'd be able to defeat them. Just spray their eye piece and then cut off the piece or batter it with a baseball bat like a former companion did. Then break off the toilet plunger and jam it into the whisk/egg beater for some extra damage. Then again, there are some who really do like these creatures.

9. We may fall in love with our Doctors, but it is the companions that really tell and sell the story. Many of you are like myself who really like the Ponds.

but the story wouldn't be complete without the other great companions too

8. A part of us all wishes the TARDIS was real and we could fly away in it with our Doctor.

7. Sometimes it's hard to express why we love the show so much, but we try our best. We create lock screens for our phones with quotes from the show.

Or borrow phrases from the show to create art

And sometimes we let the screenwriters do the talking for us

This one is extra special as I think all of us who have seen the trailer can agree...

6. I knew about the fans turning on George Lucas for the Star Wars prequels and the (non existent) fourth Indiana Jones film, but I think Sherlock and Doctor Who fans can also dish out the venom too.

5. Many fans were opposed to Peter Capaldi replacing Matt as the Doctor. I initially thought his age would change the tone of the show. It was already difficult for David to sustain the physical needs of the show for 12-18 hour days and Matt had some issues with it as well. How well would a 55 year old fare in comparison to these younger men? Then I saw In The Loop and Torchwood. All my worries vanished. I joined the rest of the fans that seem to embracing the new Doctor.

4. Cross referencing and blending two genres together is cool.

3. Sometimes we just want eye candy.

And even when we worried about how our boy would look without his gorgeous hair, he turns up like this

2. You are really creative and expressive.

1. I enjoy the stories you tell and lessons you learn.

It was heartbreaking trying to choose what to put up here. I still have folders of stuff on my computer. As you can see this is already incredibly long, so I had to put a stop somewhere. I do hope put up more stuff in upcoming posts. I hope you enjoyed it.
