The opening scene with James and Matt captivated me from the beginning. Some of my favourite quotes come from their first exchange.
Doctor: Here’s some rent. It’s a lot. It looks like a lot. Is it a lot? I can never tell.
Doctor: Lesser of a professional, more of an ancient amateur, but frankly I’m an absolute dream.
Also..
Doctor: That’s how people greet each other nowadays, isn’t
it? Hello, I’m The Doctor. Well, they call me The Doctor. I don’t know why.
I also knew Matt use to play football and was quite eager to see glimpses of him in action.
And I couldn't help but think many of the scenes like the one below were placed there for the ladies
I have always found Matt to be great at comedy and drama. I often find him fumbling around quite humorous or moments when he is trying to save his friend with a toothbrush quite funny.
And then there is the line interpretation. There are many ways an actor can play a scene, but I often respected Matt for being a bit more playful with his interpretation. As much as I enjoy the other doctors, I often found (with the exception of Patrick) that they would deliver certain lines with a bit of anger, resentment or bitterness. If you were to read the following exchange, you can see points where Matt could have went with the same kind of pattern. I'm just delighted with the choices he made.
Craig: Where did you learn to cook?
Doctor: Paris in the 18th century. No, that isn’t
it. 17th? No, 20th. No, sorry. I’m not use to doing it in
order.
Craig: Did anyone ever tell you that you’re weird?
Doctor: They never really stop. Have you ever been to Paris,
Craig?
Craig: No, I’m not much of a traveller.
Doctor: I can tell by your sofa.
Craig: Sofa?
Doctor: You’re starting to look like it.
Craig: Thanks mate. That’s awfully mean. What? I like
it here. I miss it. I miss-
Doctor: - those keys?
Craig: What?
Doctor: You’re sort of fondling them.
Craig: I’m holding them. Anyways, these are your keys.
Doctor: I can stay?!
Craig: Weird and good cooking. It’s good enough for me.
I truly love the whole mad man in a box theme or certain moments when we are reminded that The Doctor is an alien and perhaps slightly out of touch at times.
Doctor: Oh
yeah, I’ll give a shout like I WASN’T EXPECTING THIS!
As always, I enjoy watching Doctor Who Confidential
